MIT incorporated Organic-Lock Stabilized Aggregate (OLSA) into a small green corridor on campus in 2018. The project transformed an underutilized service alley into a communal outdoor space with new plantings and permeable pathways. OLSA footpaths now connect building entrances through this mini-oasis, providing a firm, low-maintenance walking surface that can handle New England’s freeze–thaw cycles. The stabilized aggregate gives the campus pathway a natural look that complements the landscaping while improving accessibility and drainage compared to the previous paved surface.
